What a wonderful world

My grandfather passed away on Wednesday night. His viewing was last night, and I was awed by the number of people that came. It was very impressive for a man that was 84 years old. Papa Whitey (that is what we called him) was undoubtedly one of the coolest men I have ever met in my life. He wore long-sleeved t-shirts underneath regular t-shirts long before American Eagle or Abercrombie deemed it cool. He loved sports cars. He always laughed and made time for people. In remembering my Papa and how he was before cancer took a toll on him, I must say he loved life and thoroughly enjoyed it. He is now in Heaven and enjoying it there, but while he lived here on earth, he made the most of it. If there is anything I choose to remember, it is that he truly enjoyed the blessing life is and the world God gave us. This last year has been my hardest ever, but I hope that I am learning to follow in Papa's footsteps and enjoy the amazing life I have been given and the amazing world all around me. His funeral service ended with Louis Armstrong's recording of "What a wonderful world." It truly, truly is.

Amanda, you have had a year of grief and loss AND all of the changes and adjustments that follow. It was great briefly seeing you while you were here. And although I know you are not quite the person to be in tune to significant dates you are thought of a lot, as the days tick by headed toward where it all began. Take care of yourself as your pour yourself into this new job. And remember there are tons of us out here somewhere thinking of you, praying for you and ALWAYS wishing you the best! I agree, that your memories and words of Whitey are sweet and precious. And isn't that the way it should be with our grandfathers? May God Bless You and Keep You this holiday season!
