Monkly Meteora

We decided to do some true sight-seeing after the first day of adventures so day two we headed out to see the monasteries that sit on the top of some of the rocks. It is an amazing concept and beautiful. These monasteries have been there for centuries and were built long before they had steps up to them. We went to the biggest monastery first. It was quite a hike up to it as you can tell. It was beautiful and quite a solemn experience. The monks still live up there now so you have to be reverent while looking around. Tres was mezmorized by the room full of bones that is on display. They preserve the bones of monks long after their bodies have decayed. I had to say a prayer then. It was a little spooky. If you notice the tower, you will see a net hanging from it. That is the way the monks used to and still do get their provisions from the ground. Neat, huh?
