Night one on Olympus

The refuge gave us tons of great information and let us know we could tackle the challenge easily the next day -- as long as we didn't mind trekking uphill. It was run by a great Greek family who lives there 4 months a year. They also had a kitchen where they made food the donkeys brought up the mountain that day. We enjoyed a basket of bread that night along with Tzatsiki, a new favorite Greek dish, and bean soup. It tasted delicious after the hike. We opted to sleep in our tent instead of the refuge dorms. Why not? Well, around midnight we found out why most people stayed inside. Despite the fact it was mid-august, it was freezing. Tres and I bundled up in about 3 layers, got in our warm sleeping bags, and cuddled close, hoping we would not need to make bathroom trips that night. Wishful thinking, I had to go 3 times that night and seeing that we were in the woods on a mountain, I asked Tres to go with me. Bears do live there. Poor Tres. He was a good sport and got the flastlight everytime. Morning was a welcome sight. Here is a shot before the sun had completely risen.
